Chang Chuan (Long Fist) is considered the “mother” of Northern kung fu.
It is characterized by bold, expansive movements. Chang Chuan provides
a thorough and systematic development of the correct kung fu principles
and habits that are required for true kung fu. Jia men chang chuan
was developed by members of the Muslim faith known as the "Hui" people.
Though at times powerful and influential in China the Hui people have
often been considered "outsiders". As an act of integration, protection
and - as some Hui leaders described it - "holy practice" they not only
took up the study of Chinese martial arts but excelled.
